Stuart joined Chamberlains Law Firm in 2022 as Special Counsel and works out of our Sydney and Newcastle offices. Stuart is currently the head of the family law team.
Prior to joining Chamberlains, Stuart worked in Newcastle specialising in family law, which has been his primary practice area for the last 7 years.
Stuart is an experienced solicitor, who has gained a reputation among both his peers and the public for his methodical but empathetic approach to family law matters. He understands that like no two families are the same, no two family law matters are the same. Stuart knows that every matter requires a close eye for detail and a well-determined strategy to reach a resolution.
It is this eye for detail and strategic thinking that has seen him develop a keen interest in complex financial and property matters, often with high net worth. These matters frequently involve third party interests, taxation issues, trust and superannuation issues, company structures and businesses including partnerships, Binding Financial Agreements (including enforcement and applications to set an agreement aside), and farming and rural disputes.
Stuart also has considerable experience in a wide range of parenting matters. That experience extends to matters involving interstate and international relocation and recovery, family violence and sexual abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, third party intervenors such as grandparents, and gender dysphoria and questions of Gillick competence.
Stuart is a tenacious advocate, who is just as comfortable in front of a judge advocating for his client’s case as he is behind a computer drafting settlement documents after successful negotiation. Stuart believes in the right approach for the right case.
When not busily practicing family law, Stuart might be found watching his beloved Newcastle Knights inevitably snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. He likes to think he is a good cook, but knows he is a lousy guitarist.
