Based in our Newcastle office, Tyler Drayton exclusively practices in historical institutional abuse matters, appearing in both the Supreme and District Courts. His work spans across Australia, with active cases in New South Wales, Western Australia, Tasmania, Queensland, and South Australia.
Before entering the legal field, Tyler spent eight years as a landscaper, working on defence bases and at the Newcastle Jockey Club. It was during this time that he developed a strong work ethic and a grounded perspective, qualities that continue to shape his legal practice today. Driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, he transitioned into law with a clear sense of purpose.
Tyler began his legal studies with a year in Legal Services at TAFE NSW before studying at the University of Newcastle, where he completed a Bachelor of Criminology and a Bachelor of Laws, along with a Diploma of Laws. His academic background is complemented by a diverse range of additional qualifications, including:

Tyler’s legal career began with paralegal roles in both plaintiff and defendant work, including debt recovery and motor vehicle accidents. However, it was in plaintiff institutional abuse litigation where he found his calling. Here, he honed his advocacy skills and developed a reputation for loyalty, tenacity, and unwavering dedication to his clients, particularly those who have long been overlooked or unheard.
